Seeks to create bayanihan attitude

Kapit-Bakawan is a public database showing fluctuations in crablet prices all over the Philippines. It also showcases trustworthy traders, fishermen and research groups who can assist mangrove crab stakeholders all over the country. It is updated live and seeks to create a bayanihan attitude contrary to the crab mentality that has been ascribed to the high value commodity that we seek to promote.

How does Kapit Bakawan work?

Kapit-Bakawan is a real-time updating line graph showing the fluctuations of price in crablets all over the Philippines which can be seen when viewing from a desktop.

The Philippine Department of Agriculture has issued the following advisory:

  1. Catching, possession, and selling of crablets from the wild that are less than 5 cm wide are now forbidden.
  2. Catching, possession, and selling of gravid mangrove crabs are now forbidden.
  3. Wild sourced crablets between 5cm and 12 cm may be caught and sold within a town or region, but only crabs bigger than 12 cm can be sold outside of your town or region.
  4. Exporting of breeders, spawners, eggs or fry to different towns or regions is forbidden.
  5. BFAR accredited hatchery sourced crablets may still be traded across towns or regions but a certificate of authenticity must be provided by the hatchery.
  6. Collection of crablets of all sizes may still be done for research purposes is allowed, as long as a Permit to Conduct Research is secured from the LGU.
  7. If caught, violators are subject to fines ranging from Php 100,000 to Php 5,000,000, and 8-10 years of imprisonment.

Ang Philippine Department of Agriculture ay naglabas ng bagong kautusan:

  1. Ang panghuhuli, pagkakaroon at pagbebenta ng crablets na hinuli sa laot o bakawan na mas maliit sa 5 cm ay pinagbabawal na.
  2. Ang panghuhuli, pagkakaroon at pagbebenta ng alimangong bunti ay pinagbabawal na.
  3. Maaari pa ring manghuli sa laot at bakawan ng crablets na may laking mula 5cm hanngang 12 cm ngunit maari lamang sila ibenta sa inyong bayan o region. Ang maaari lamang ibenta sa ibang bayan o region ay mga alimango na mas malaki na sa 12 cm.
  4. Ang pagbebenta o pagpapadala ng breeders, spawners, itlog o crablet sa ibang bayan o region ay pinagbabawal na.
  5. Ang mga hatcheries na accredited ng BFAR ay maaari pa din magbenta ng crablets sa iba’t ibang bayan at region, ngunit nangangailangan na ito ng Certificate of Authenticity.
  6. Maaari pa din manghuli ng crablets nang kahit ano’ng laki kung ito ay para sa pananaliksik, ngunit nangangailangan na ito ng Permit to Conduct Research galing sa munisipyo/LGU.
  7. Kapag nahuli, ang mga lumabag sa kautusang ito ay maaaring ma-pinahan mula Php 100,000 hanggang Php 5,000,000, at 8-10 taon na pagkakakulong.
